Work Song Works (2009) is a collaboration with Taryn Takahashi. We were commissioned by Gallery Primo Alonso in London to take on a 1 month blitzkrieg residency program to generate work for the exhibition for the collaborative work resulting from the residency. We invited people to submit their work songs - songs or music they listen to or sing while at work. There was no preconceived blueprint to make artworks during the residency. We reacted spontaneously to the submissions. Certain logic emerged naturally, which was then implemented in quick execution to create the various pieces. The actual song, their time frame, rhythm and titles, the character of individual participants, the nature of their work and the evocativeness of certain musical genres, all contributed and influenced the process of creation. |
